Nothing makes me happier than a wedding, and I always cry, even when I don’t know the couple very well.  Science cannot explain it.

No really. Doctors and psychologists have a lot of theories.  Perhaps it is a communications signal. Another study thinks it’s about slowing down your breathing.

This doctor thinks we’re not actually happy at weddings, we’re actually sad. Sorry, doc, that’s just dumb. Weddings are beautiful and joyous. I’m sorry they are so upsetting for you.

I personally like this study, which suggests that when we are so overwhelmed with joy or sorrow, we cry or laugh when we’re “not supposed to” in order to balance out our emotional state. So we cry at weddings because we are actually too happy.

Like I said, science cannot explain it.
